Temple Aliyah Community Outreach is excited to see you and your family this year as we organize events that give you the opportunity to contribute to the community in unique and fun ways!

Below you can find examples of the events that were available for the community during last year's Mitzvah Day. Mitzvah Day Activities 

Repair Chumashim

Repair chumashim – our book bound forms of the Torah – with our very own Jackie Ben Efraim!

Help plant vegetables in the STS Community garden

Help plant and clean up the STS Community Garden. Bring your own work gloves!

Make Fleece Tie Blankets with JFS Project Hope

Make fleece tie blankets for children living in domestic violence shelters with JFS Project Hope, whose highly trained, nurturing, and compassionate staff of clinicians provide the highest level of services, trauma-informed care, individual service plans, and more.

Make Sandwiches for People Experiencing Homelessness

Get excited to make sandwiches with us at Mitzvah Day! Participate in this wonderful activity together with Temple Aliyah and Shomrei Torah.

Join ECE and JLC for a Variety of Activities

Join the ECE and JLC for a variety of family friendly activities, including rock painting and placemat decorating for The Jewish Home, and creating mitzvah wheels to put up in your own homes.

Collections for LA Family Housing

Collect family winter clothing and gently used kitchenware (dishes, eating and cooking utensils, glasses, pots and pans) for LA Family Housing, an organization that helps people transition out of homelessness and poverty through a continuum of housing enriched with supportive services.

Lunchbox Collection for LA Family Housing

Collect lunchboxes for LA Family Housing as part of Harley Stearn’s Bat Mitzvah service project. Donate new or gently used lunchboxes.

Collection for Downtown Women's Center

Collect gently used and clean women’s career clothing for the Downtown Women's Center, an organization focused exclusively on serving and empowering women experiencing homelessness and formerly homeless women.

Collection for Rancho San Antonio Boys Home

Collect gently used and clean men’s career clothing for Suits for Success, benefiting young men at Rancho San Antonio Boys Home in Chatsworth, a multi-service residential agency serving court-ordered adolescent boys, utilizing an interdisciplinary approach to provide an opportunity for rehabilitation of the total person through a balanced physical, social, spiritual, psychological, and educational experience.

Collection for "Shoes That Fit"

We are completing our collection of shoes for students at Hart Street Elementary with Shoes that Fit, an organization that tackles one of the most visible signs of poverty in America by giving kids in need new athletic shoes to attend school with dignity and joy, prepared to learn, play and thrive. Make bracelets for SAVE A CHILD'S HEART,

An organization that brings children to Israel for medical care, performs missions abroad, and trains medical personnel – saving the lives of critically ill children suffering from heart disease in countries where access to pediatric heart care is limited or nonexistent.

Give some love to dogs in need!

Pups Without Borders, a foster-based rescue in Los Angeles, pulling small breed dogs from LA area shelters, as well as working with international rescue partners to re-home dogs in need. Bring old and/or mismatched socks to make dog toys, and donate old towels and sheets for the dogs!

Assemble Care Packages for

Bundles of Kindness

Created in December 2018 as part of a Bat Mitzvah social action project to provide comprehensive care packages to people living in Los Angeles who are homeless, providing basic necessities, while offering human interaction, dignity, love, and kindness. Collecting new or used umbrellas, shampoo, conditioner, face wash, body wash, body wipes (travel or full size).

Make greeting cards for Community of Caring

Participate in making greeting cards staff for those in need of support in our communities, and Sharsheret, Hebrew for chain, the only national organization supporting Jewish women, men, and families, of all backgrounds, facing breast and ovarian cancer.
